Why We Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick stained glass
Every March 17th cities across the world don bright green and orange outfits in celebration for St. Patrick’s Day. The day is full of parades, corned beef, green beer and shamrocks. But many do not know why we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. In short, it is a Catholic Feast Day to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It is celebrated on the day of his death, March 17th. Although the celebration originated in Ireland, the first parade started in Boston in 1737. Due to the heavy wave of Irish immigrants to America during the 18-1900s many Irish-Americans recognize St. Patrick’s Day as a celebration of their heritage. Make sure to see the green river downtown Chicago or check out the parade!

Wiper Upgrade
windshield wiper
Odds are your wipers were used and abused all winter long. Whether they were below 2 feet of snow or viciously covered in ice, it’s time to see if your wipers need to be swapped out. Typically, wipers tend to lose their edge after about 6 months or so. Here are some signs that it’s time for some new blades:

  • Your wipers leave behind streaks when it rains or snows
  • There is a loud chattering noise when your blades move, this means your blades are bouncing up and down as opposed to gliding smoothly
  • Blades are whipping away from the windshield instead of resting on top
  • The rubber blade has cracked or completely split from the wiper itself
  • Any noticeable bend in the metal arm

Must-Haves in Your Car Kits
Emergency car kit
It’s no secret that every car should have an emergency kit in it. However, not all of those kits are created the same. Sure most include a flashlight, first-aid supplies and various car tools, but to make an emergency kit truly valuable, it’s got to be tailored to you and your families needs. A few extra things you can add on your own include:

  • A fully charged cell-phone
  • Anywhere from $20-50 in cash
  • A comforting object, such as a Teddy Bear, to comfort children
  • Bottled water
  • Swiss Army knife
These are all optional additions to consider including WITH your emergency roadside kit. No one knows your needs, or your families, more than you so make sure you’re prepared when emergencies strike!

Does Cheap Gas Mean A Bad Economy?
Gas pumping
Gas prices have been dramatically dropping since January. In some parts of the country, gas has fallen far below the $3 per gallon, according to the Associated Press. While this is definitely good news for consumers and families looking for a nice Spring road trip, what do they prices mean for the economy? According to US News, low gas prices means a slower global economy. Since gas is so dependent on the price of oil, a product mostly out-sourced from the turbulent Middle East, the weak prices indicate low demand, which typically indicates a slow economy. So while the typical household may be saving some cash here or there, it could mean problems on a larger scale. Thankfully, economists have been studying the market carefully and have warned many about another potential crash. So enjoy these cheap gas prices while you can!
